Media Play for parents and children of any age – welcome! Media artist and cultural worker Markus Renvall (b. 1957) is having an experimental moving image workshop for children and their parents of any age. The participants create their own mediaspace using digi- and  videocameras and a chroma key -screen. Chroma key is a blue or green screen which is used in video practice as a background screen. It makes possible to bring together videomaterial from different sources into the same image space and i.e. to combine different scales (humans can appear in a doll house etc.). The participants are encouraged to bring their own cameras to the workshop.

Media Play is one of the projects of Renvall´s Mediacritical Laboratory where he develops new social working methods for digital media and keeps up discussions about the relation of art and society. Media Play will change its participants relation to media, releasing powers into creative practice and thinking. The participants are not just passive consumers but together they form a temporary community creating their own mediaspaces. Renvall´s former projects include ROHTO: Straight on Medicine Art (Helsinki, Lontoo, Norja, Tukholma, Pietari, 2002), Surudisco
(Disco of Sorrows) in Kiasma Contemporary Art Museum (2003), Social Game in Digitally
yours -exhibition in Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova, Turku (2007) and Kukkia ja mediaa – Taidetta
pyöräillen (Flowers and Media – Seeing Art by Bicycling) (2008). Max. amount of participants
is 15 persons. Please apply to the workshop by sending your name and number of the persons
to aavefestival(at)gmail.com
