Oliver Whitehead (b. 1947 in GB) has lived and worked in Helsinki, Finland since 1971. He works with many different media including film, video, photography, drawings, printmaking and installations. As an artist his multidisciplinary production and many-sided approach to art defies reductive categorizations. In 2000 he got the 1st international prize in the category of video for his work Mind´s Eye (1999), given by ZKM/SWR (Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie / Südwestrundfunk). He was the first director of the department of Time and Space –arts in the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts during the years 1991-97.
Recently he has been creating specific live-cinema projections for bands and has toured with the Finnish group You/Me (Asko Keränen ja Marjatta Oja). He also creates solo live cinema performances manipulating moving images and sound. In AAVE Whitehead will perform two live cinema -performances with sound of approximately 20 minutes each.
Men-ace is a live video projection performance with sound. Using images that are soothing but at the same time menacing, the artist references images and the visual seduction of violence with immersive sounds
