CLIMBING DOWN FROM MOUNT ANALOGUE
“The door to the invisible must be visible.” (René Daumal: Mount Analogue, 1939 – 1944)
The difference between analogical film and digital media is one of the big questions of the
contemporary moving image. British artist Tacita Dean started a conversation about the
uniqueness in perception and materiality of analogical film in connection of her film installation
Film (2011) in Tate Modern, London. Also other artists and theorists have been facing this problem in their practice and thinking. What do we lose when we lose the film? What is possible only for the celluloid film and what really are the new possibilities of digital media when thinking the human perception? AAVE-festival starts a conversation about these themes in connection with this and forthcoming festivals.
