On Friday 12.4. starting 12 noon a seminar in two parts will be held at the Academy of Fine Arts. In the first session artists Bruce McClure, Sami van Ingen and Marek Pluciennik will discuss their work and methods in a panel discussion. Laura Minici Zotti (IT), the director of Museo del precinema in Padua will then have a lecture performance where she reconstructs a Laterna Magica show about Charles Dickens’ travel to Italy.

Since 1975, Laura Minici Zotti, director of the Museum and also skilled “lanternist”, has spread the knowledge of precinema throughout the world giving her magic lantern shows. In 2008 she received the prestigious international Jean Mitry prize at the Silent Film Festival of Pordenone for her constant cultural service and dissemination of the knowledge of Precinema. In 2010 she recived the Premio Donna Eccelente for culture and recently the Premio Vittorio De Sica.

The Museum of PRECINEMA, founded in 1998, is based in the Palazzo Angeli, a 15th Century building in Prato della Valle, in the centre of the historic city of Padua. The Museum preserves and displays the optical instruments and original hand-painted magic lantern slides, dating back to the 18th and 19th Centuries. Alongside simple devices there are also more complicated instruments like the pheneakistoscope, praxinoscope zoetrope and magic lanterns of many different kinds. Finally, there are a is also a Javanese shadow theatre dating from the end of the 19th Century and a camera obscura.
