In our series of Japanese feature films we continue in bringing forth three directors, who are original each in their own way. Wakamatsu Koji is well-known for his art house films, in which he comments i.e. sex and politics. Tsukamoto Shin’ya has directed some of the best examples of Japanese cyberpunk and Ichikawa Jun treats humanistic themes in his movies. In our selection we are looking for another kind of point of view and choosing not to display the films that correspond most clearly to these interpretations. We are looking for the director’s own voice behind the most obvious genre-rules and thematic points. All Oishii -films are spoken in Japanese and subtitled in English. K18, the films have not been classified in Finland.
