“THE MORE ENLIGHTENED OUR HOUSES ARE, THE MORE THEIR WALLS OOZE GHOSTS” -ITALO CALVINO
AAVE (in English: ghost) will be back haunting the streets of Helsinki 11.-14.4.2013. Our main venue is the cultural center Malmitalo, with side events beginning on Monday 8.4. with an installation opening by the group Yokotai in gallery Sorbus. This year our primary attention and focus is on 16mm and 35mm film performances and also celebrating half a century of video art in a special screening.
We are presenting new and interesting works, including Hate, an experimental stereoscopic film by Sami van Ingen. Our main festival guest will be the film performer Bruce McClure (US). Our Japanese art cinema delicacies programme Oishii consists of three feature films. We shall also present a special programme of one-shot works.
Our side events include a lecture performance by Laura Minici Zotti (IT), the director of Museo del Precinema in Padua. She will give a lecture performance by reconstructing a Laterna Magica show about Charles Dickensﾒ travel to Italy. Irina Spicaka (LV) has curated the workshop series Creative Coding for Live Visuals, organized in collaboration with transdisciplinary platform Pixelache. The workshop series will culminate with an AV performance by the participants in Bar Sandro on Saturday 13.4.
Our mission is to reveal the richness of moving image by including various methods and formats in our festival programme. Our vision is to challenge the boundaries of conventional festivals by bringing out the different mediums of moving image from the early techniques to the most recent digital image formats.
