Today at 7pm we’ll screen the Japanese feature film Eli, Eli, Lema Sabachthani? (My God, My God, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me?) directed by Shinji Aoyama in 2005. In A.D.2015, a deadly pandemic virus has been spreading, causing its victims to become depressed and later commit suicide. The media calls the disease the Lemming Syndrome. In an old country house situated between the mountains and sea Mizui (Tadanobu Asano) and Asuhara (Masaya Nakahara) live and make music surrounded with their instruments. An aged plutocrat, his granddaughter, and a detective arrive from a city where the deadly virus spreads over. They realise that Mizui´s and Asuhara´s noise-spirited experimental music and sound art (created for the film by Noboyuchi Kikuki and Hiroyuki Nagashima) might be the cure.
